Advanced Vehicle Research Center

The AVRC is a private for-profit company that focuses on research and commercialization of alternative fuel vehicles and technologies.

AVRC’s most recent advanced engineering development tool for designing and testing electric vehicle components and electric vehicle drive train designs is a rolling Laboratory Rapid Application Testing (LabRAT) that was designed and constructed to greatly reduce the cost and time of testing multiple combinations of drive-train and energy storage systems. Developed in collaboration with CyberMetrix Systems in Columbus, Indiana and supported by a grant from the Department of Energy, the system was designed and built at the AVRC Engineering Center in Danville, Virginia.

Seeking:

Clients for EV engineering and development services, partnerships, funding

Expertise and Resources:

Rapid Application Testbed (LabRAT) is a $1.2 million dollar test platform that can be configured as any electric vehicle from 2,000 lbs gvw to 10,000 gvw. Data can be collected on motor and battery performance, temperature, torque and performance on a programmable drive cycle, e.g. EPA Urban Drive Cycle performance, mileage per charge, etc. Our Chief Scientist and Researcher is Dr. Yimin Gao, co-author of the definitive textbook "Modern Electric, Hybrid Electric, and Fuel Cell Vehicles, Fundamantals, Theory and Design". AVRC has a working relationship with China Aviation Lithium Batteries (CALB) for complete pack design and prototyping.
